Samples were injected directly into a
gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector (FID) for analysis of total
hydrocarbons.
The make and model of the equipment used to perform these on-site analysis included:
o Hewlett Packard 5890 Gas Chromatograph
o Flame Ionization (FID) Detector
o 15 feet by 0.53u RT-5 Y Bore Capillary
0 336 Computer with Hewlett Packard Chem Station software
Quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) were achieved through strict experimental
Protocol-
QA/QC procedures are included in the Optimal Technology report (Appendix A).
Chain-of-custody procedures were obsern,
ed for all samples collected. All parts of the
collection system that came in contact with a sample were decontaminated before each use.
Three calibration runs were performed at the beginning of each day and an additional
l calibration run after every 10 samples. A system blank was analyzed at the beginning of
each day and between each sample. About 50% of the soil gas samples were analyzed in
duplicate.
i : .
Standards were prepared from stock mixtures of neat reagent grade compounds from Chem
Service Inc. For preparation of daily standards,a measured volume of the standard mixture
was injected directly into the gas chromatograph.
4
