Working To Restore Nature
Report on Vapor Extraction Test January 29, 1993
Coca-Cola Former Distribution Facility, Stockton, California 5400601
rStockton, California where it was incinerated
' Groundwater Samples
Groundwater was encountered at a depth of about 70 feet below grade In August 1990,
' five groundwater samples were collected and submitted for analysis, and all five showed
detectable petroleum hydrocarbons Cumulative results of laboratory analyses of
groundwater samples are summarized in Appendix A, Table A-3 In August 1990, TPHg
was nondetectable in all wells except MW-1 located immediately east of the former gasoline
UST In MW-1, TPHg was detected at 46 parts per billion (ppb) TPHd was detected in
four of the five wells, and ranged from nondetectable in MW-3 to 220 ppb in MW-1
Benzene was present in MW-1 and MW-2 at 052 and 053 ppb respectively, and was
nondetectable in MW-3 through MW-5 Toluene was nondetectable in all wells, except
MW-3 where it was detected at 0 36 ppm, ethylbenzene was nondetectable in all wells, total
xylenes were present in MW-1 and MW-2 at less than 1 ppb PNAs were nondetectable in
the three wells analyzed for PNAs (MW-1 through MW-3) Volatile aromatic organic
compounds (VAOCs by EPA Method 8020) were nondetectable in the two wells tested
(MW-4 and MW-5) All regulated chemicals were within State and Federal Maximum
Contaminant Levels (MCLS) in groundwater in August 1990 State and Federal MCLS are
reported at the bottom of Table A-3 in Appendix A
Additional Subsurface Investigation
' Additional step out borings (B-14 through B-24) were drilled in October and November
1990 Eleven borings were drilled, one groundwater monitoring well (MW-6) was installed
in one boring, and four vapor extraction wells (VEW-1 through VEW-4) were installed in
four other borings Soil type was primarily clayey and sandy silt Cumulative results of
laboratory analyses of soil samples are summarized in Appendix A, Tables A-1 and A-2,
listed under October/November 1990 data TPHg was nondetectable in all eleven borings,
with the exception of B-15/VEW-2 and B-16/VEW-3 TPHg in these two borings ranged
from nondetectable to 630 ppm (at 5 feet in B-16/VEW-3) TPHd was nondetectable in
1 all borings except B-14/VEW-1 through B-17/VEW-4, and ranged from nondetectable to
50 ppm (in B-16/VEW-3 at 15 feet) BTEX was nondetectable in five of the borings, and
in the other six borings ranged from nondetectable to 44 ppm total xylenes (in B-16/VEW-
3) TPHg soil concentration contours at depths of 0 to 30 feet are shown graphically in
PIate 4 PNAs were nondetectable in all of the 14 samples tested, with the exception of B-
16/VEW-3 which contained 3,500 ppm naphthalene at a depth of 5 feet, as reported in
Table A-2 in Appendix A
1 5
r
