21 May 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0394
Soil was extruded from the remaining brass sleeves and screened for the presence of organic, vapor
using a photo-ionization detector (PID: Thermo Environmental 580A, 10.0 eV, calibrated to
isobutylene), and the readings were recorded on the Boring Logs (Appendix B)_. The soil was
described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
Selected soil and ground water sampleswere analyzed for total, petroleum hydrocarbons quantified
as gasoline(TPH-g) and volatile'aromatics(benzene,toluene,-ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTE&X)
Soil samples were analyzed in accordance with EPA Method 5030/8015m and EPA Method 8020,
respectively.
3.0. RESULTS
None of the soil samples gave any-field indications. for the'presence of hydrocarbons, such as
staining, odor or PID readings. As a result, only the soil samples collected from,25 feet bsg in the
probings were analyzed. Neither total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline nor BTE&X were
detected in any of the probe boring soil samples. The laboratory-report is included as Appendix A.
4.0. CONCLUSIONS
These data indicate that the areas sampled have not been impacted by a release of petroleum
hydrocarbons from USTs presumably formerly present at 548 N. Wilson Way. This is not to say that
the site has,not been impacted, but this good-faith effort to assess for hydrocarbon-impacted soil did
not detect any of the hydrocarbon analytes.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
