M. Scott Mansholt— Chevron - 2 - 11 October 2007
US Can-Welty Road Workplan
• Soil and/or groundwater samples with obvious presence of crude oil will be submitted
for fuel fingerprint analysis to evaluate the potential source of the petroleum
hydrocarbons encountered;
• Sample depths will be chosen to be consistent with future environmental screening risk
assessment purposes and for lateral and vertical delineation evaluation; and,
• Groundwater samples will be obtained from two borings and submitted for analysis of
' General Minerals water quality parameters.
Based on our review of the SAIC workplan, we have the following comments:
e Regional Water Board staff concurs with the plan for advancing additional borings for
soil and groundwater sampling and destroying the three monitoring wells; and,
• The monitoring well destruction documentation, including a copy of the San Joaquin
County permit, should be included with the soil and groundwater investigation report.
' By 1 April 2008 pleaserovide the well destruction results and
p . the soil and groundwater
investigation report.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dean Hubbard at (559) 445-5179.
SHELTON R.
