CHEVRON ENERGY TECHNOLOGY COMPANY
INTEGRATED LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIES
PROJECT SUMMARY
Project No: 2009.0019 Requested by: Scott Mansholt
Date Initiated: 3/6/2009 Location: 6111 Bollinger Canyon Rd.
Date Completed: 3/11/2009 San Ramon, CA 94583
CRTC Charge Code: YWETS 1560196 Phone: 925-543-2353
Proiect Description:
Fuel fingerprint two soil samples (SB-43-36' and SB-41-43') collected from the US-Can Welty
Rd. Site located at Welty Road and Highway 33 in Vernalis, CA and identify the hydrocarbon
types present.
Results:
The soil boring SB-43-36' contains a minute amount of hydrocarbon compounds (shown in the
table below); however, there were compounds detected that correspond to gasoline and middle
distillate hydrocarbons. Compounds detected in the gasoline range include: branched paraffins,
olefins, toluene, and ethylbenzene. Compounds detected in the sample that was indicative of
middle distillates included branched paraffins, which were present in amounts were barely above
the signal to noise threshold.
Soil boring SB-41-43' contained compounds that are indicative of gasoline, diesel fuel #2, and
crude oil or bunker fuel. The chromatographic profile for the crude region of the chromatogram
is typical of an SJV crude profile. No benzene was detected; however, toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylenes were detected. The sample is extremely biodegraded with only the branched paraffins
clearly defined. Below is a table describing the carbon number distribution.
approximate
hydrocarbon approximate
C6- C7-C10 C11-C14 C15-C25 C26+
Sample I.D. concentration in moisture content
(area %) (area %) (area %) (area %) (area %)
soil, mg/Kg (wet in soil, %
weight)
09.0019-1
<5 16 13.1 23.4 9.1 50.1 4.2
SB-43-36'
09.0019-2
454 17 0.02 2.7 17.2 46.7 33.4
S13-41-43'
