The
site is located southeast of the intersection of California Highway 33 and Welty Road south of
Vernalis. The adjacent properties' land use is primarily for agricultural crops, light industrial
purposes and some rural residences; the Bogetti property land use is for agricultural purposes.
The associated former Vernalis Pump Station site is west of Highway 33.
In 2006, SAIC completed a soil and groundwater investigation at the former Vernalis Pump
Station site and on the Bogetti property consisting of borings to collect soil and groundwater
samples for laboratory analysis of the petroleum hydrocarbon constituents of concern. SAIC
concluded, and Regional Water Board staff concurred, that soil and groundwater conditions
had been adequately delineated on the pump station site, but petroleum affected groundwater
had not been defined downgradient on the Vernalis Offsite (Bogetti) property.
The current workplan proposes to advance seven borings on the Bogetti property and the
' Highway 33 right-of-way to obtain soil and groundwater samples for analysis of the petroleum
constituents of concern. Provided petroleum-affected soil or groundwater is encountered, at
least one representative sample from each medium will be submitted for analysis. In addition,
the groundwater samples will be analyzed for "general minerals" water quality parameters.
Regional Water Board staff concurs with the proposed field investigation workplan.
By 1 October 2007, please submit your investigative report of findings.
1
California Environmental Protection Agency
04, Recycled Paper
