Appendix D.1:Data Usability Summary
QC criteria and were flagged E for associated samples SB-26-W-080227, SB-27-W-080226, SB-28-W-
080226, and SB-29-W-080226.
When non project-specific MS/MSD pairs were analyzed for QC purposes, those samples were not
evaluated in relation with matrix compliance in the Vernalis Offsite samples.
LCS/LCSDs
A LCS was analyzed with each analytical batch of samples. All LCS/LCSD%Rs were within the
laboratory control limits.
Surrogates
All surrogates were within QC range with the exception of orthoterphenyl%Rs associated with sample
SB-33-W-080225 (125 percent),which was flagged E.
Representativeness
Representativeness was assessed through the evaluation of the equipment blank sample, chain-of-custody
forms, preservation, and holding times. The reported results were also compared to the laboratory's
MDLs and LOQs.
Method Blank Results
All laboratory method blanks were free of contamination with the following exception: phenanthrene was
detected in the method blank(0.011 micrograms per liter[gg/L]) associated with samples SB-33-W-
080225, SB-32-W-080226, SB-31-W-080226, SB-26-W-080227, SB-27-W-080226, SB-28-W-080226,
and SB-29-W-080226, and was flagged E. Phenanthrene and anthracene were detected associated with
SB-29-W-080226MS/MSD pair;however, the samples had concentrations greater than 10 times the
amount found in the blanks and therefore no flags were applied.
Field QC Results
Eight rinsate blank were submitted with the field samples. The rinsate blanks were free of contamination
with the following exceptions: naphthalene was detected in rinsate blanks QA-Screen-R-080226 0.14 gg/l
and QA-Screen-R-080227 0.13 µg/L. The associated samples were consequently data qualified as E.
Chain-Of-Custody Forms
Sample analytical results were evaluated for agreement with the chain-of-custody form. The evaluation
indicated that all samples were received at the laboratory in the appropriate containers and in good
condition with the chain-of-custody form filled out properly.
Preservation and Holding Times
Samples were preserved in the field as appropriate, were received at the laboratory within the acceptance
temperature criterion of 4 f 2 °C, and were prepared and analyzed within specified holding times.
Samples QA-Tubing—R-080225, SB-33-W-080225,and SB-31-W-080226 were analyzed for TPHd
(Clo-C25)with silica-gel cleanup outside the holding time and were flagged E due to a laboratory error.
Sample preservations, when required by the analysis, were less than the acceptance pH limit of 2.
Reporting Limits
Data reported for this sampling event were reported with the laboratory MDLs. The MDL represents the
lowest concentration point where an analyte can be positively identified, but the quantitation is an
estimate. The LOQ is the lowest concentration of an analyte in a sample that the laboratory can report
with precision and accuracy. Analytes that were reported between the MDL and LOQ for this data set
were qualified J as estimates. Due to the nature of the sample matrix, the laboratory used reduced
aliquots for several samples and the MDL and LOQ were adjusted appropriately.
D.1-3
From Science to Solutions
