I <br /> i <br /> 7.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) <br /> Personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be used by Radian and subcontractor <br /> personnel to reduce employee exposure hazards, and to provide an additional measure of safety <br /> beyond that provided by engineering or other controls PPE selection is based on the results of <br /> the preliminary site inspections and historical data of contaminants known to exist at the site <br /> Only Level D is expected to be used at this site, 35500 Welty Road, Vernalis PPE assignments <br /> may be modified based upon the results of the air monitoring program described in Section 8 0 <br /> PPE ensembles shall consist of combinations of eye, head, foot, body, respiratory, <br /> and hearing protection devices All PPE shall meet the following specifications as required by <br /> OSHA (29 CFR 1910 132-136) <br /> • Eye protection—American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z87 1- <br /> 1968, <br /> • Head protection--ANSI Z89 1-1969, <br /> • Foot protection—ANSI Z41 1-1967, <br /> • Respiratory protection—Respirators are approved by the National <br /> Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Mine Safety <br /> and Health Administration (MSHA), and <br /> • Hearing protection—Hearing protection devices are approved by the <br /> United States Environmental Protection Agency (U S EPA) and assigned <br /> a noise reduction rating (NRR) <br /> 7.1 Level D Protection <br /> When the atmosphere contains no known hazard and work functions preclude <br /> splashes, immersions, or the potential for unexpected inhalation of or contact with hazardous <br /> levels of any chemicals, Level D protection may be used Level D does not provide respiratory <br /> . protection and provides minimal dermal protection The minimum Level D ensemble consists <br /> of <br /> 7-1 <br />
