Geological Technics Inc Page S <br /> 35500 Welry Road,Vernalis,CA <br /> Report-Preliminary Environmental Site Assessment <br /> Project No 248 2 <br /> February 6, 1995 <br /> i <br /> 3.3 Soil Sample Analyses <br /> Soil samples were submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar for <br /> analyses These samples were tested for benzene, toluene, total xylenes and <br /> ethylbenzene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020 and Total Extractable Petroleum <br /> Hydrocarbons (TEPH) by EPA method 8015 modified <br /> The detection limit for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes is 3 0 <br /> µg/kg (ppb) and 5 0/50 mg/kg for TEPH. Upon receiving preliminary <br /> laboratory results Geological Technics Inc requested that the capillary fringe <br /> sample be tested for total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons (TRPH) using <br /> EPA method 418 1 The wipe sample was also tested for BTEX, TEPH, and <br /> TRPH <br /> 3.4 Borehole Closure <br /> After reaching the total depth of the bore hole, the soil boring was closed by <br /> installing a granular bentonite plug at the bottom of the boring, hydrating it <br /> with tap water and then pumping a neat cement grout (augmented with <4% <br /> bentonite) to grade with a slurry pump and a tremie pipe <br /> Disposition of Soil Cutting <br /> 3.5g <br /> Clean soil cutting generated during the soil boring installation was spread out <br /> near the boring Contaminated spoils were placed on and covered with <br /> plastic sheeting <br /> 4.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION <br /> The data collected during this investigation have been summarized in the <br /> following sections <br /> 4.1 Site Geology <br /> The subsurface geology is characterized by a silty sand with gravel layers The <br /> sand ranges in gram size from very fine to medium (modified Wentworth <br /> scale) The sand contains varying amounts of a silt matrix and a sandy gravel <br /> layer was encountered at 25 feet The detailed boring log is attached in <br /> Appendix B <br />
