I <br /> Geological Technics Inc Page 5 <br /> 35500 Welty Road,Vernalis,CA <br /> J_ Report-Preliimmary Environmental Site Assessment <br /> Protect No 248 2 <br /> February 6, 1995 <br /> i1) The southwestern corner-Hunter Container Company <br /> 2) The northwestern corner-Western Farm Supply <br /> 3) The northeastern corner-Vernalis Grocery and Post Office (including at <br /> least one UST at the Vernalis Grocery) <br /> 4) The southeast corner-the subject Property (35500 Welty Road) <br /> The land across Welty Road to the west is planted in walnut trees To the <br /> south is the property owned by Mr Brinkman To the south of this property <br /> is the Enviropur-West-Vernalis storage facility and some other light <br /> industrial properties (See telephone interview with Ron Ferrario, below) <br /> F <br /> • What appears to be a recently removed underground storage tank was <br /> observed on the property to the south It was not readily evident as to <br /> where this tank had originated <br /> • A large concrete maintenance pit was observed to be built into the concrete <br /> pad of the 35500 Welty Road site which extends onto the adjoining <br /> property According to Dale Brinkman, a former owner of the 35500 Welty <br /> Road Property and owner of the adjacent property, this maintenance pit <br /> - • was reportedly used for servicing buses and trucks during the operation of <br /> tthe former labor camp <br /> 2.4 Interviews <br /> Interviews were conducted with the following people <br /> Mr Ron Llewellvn Telephone Interview <br /> According to Mr Llewellyn, prior to 1935 the Property housed a pumping <br /> station for the Chevron/Standard Oil product pipeline located near or along <br /> the northeastern margin of the site (parallel to Highway 33 and the railroad) <br /> The following is a summary of the property's pertinent information <br /> • The Property is approximately 5-6 acres in size and triangular in shape <br /> • It is bounded in the southeast by the San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line, <br /> in the northeast by the Southern Pacific railway and State Highway 33 and <br /> in the west (the hypotenuse of the triangle) by Welty Road (Figure 2) <br /> • The assessors parcel number for the site is (APN 255-260-03) <br /> • Past land usage for the Property includes the operation of a pumping <br /> station for Standard Oil's former crude oil pipeline and a labor camp <br /> Presently, the property is empty of surface structures, and has been since <br /> about1950 <br /> • The nearest water well is located to the east and south (approximately 100 <br /> ft from the property line) <br /> i <br />
