Chemical Spill Response Training: <br />1. Every site that generates hazardous waste or that has science classes which perform <br />experiments with chemicals or dissections will have an EPA #. <br />a. Either a CA or Federal EPA #. <br />2. All of our hazardous material spills are reported thru this number. <br />a. Our gas station in the transportation yard —including oil/ water separators. <br />b. High school Ag, Auto, Metal and wood shops, drama, science class, custodial supplies, <br />etc. <br />c. Maintenance and Grounds supplies. <br />d. Hazmat and universal waste. <br />e. Kitchen supplies— including grease traps. <br />3. What constitutes a chemical spill? <br />a. According to the County, one drop spilled of a chemical needs to be reported. <br />4. What is the process for handling a spill? <br />a. Multi colored handout has section titled "Fire or Hazardous Chemical Spill" <br />"If safe to do so, take any immediate measures to control or stop any release. <br />Remove sources of ignition, ventilate the area of release, isolate the area, and <br />report the release to the office. If directed to do so, treat as a fire drill". <br />5. Who do you report a spill to? <br />a. Multicolored handout has section titled "Emergency Communication/ Response". <br />L See title "When a Hazardous Material Spill Occurs". <br />1. Evacuate your room immediately. Utilize the fire drill procedure if <br />directed to do so. <br />2. Call your site administration immediately and notify your site custodian <br />of spill location and chemical spilled (if known). <br />3. California Emergency Management Assoc. 916-845-8911 <br />6. What are the responsibilities after a spill? <br />a. Safety for people and environment —both need to betaken care immediately. <br />b. After reporting spill, proper cleanup of spill and ensure the proper handling of cleanup <br />materials. <br />c. Follow thru on circumstances that lead to hazardous situation and determine how to <br />avoid future situations. Communicate changes to ensure no future situations occur. <br />7. Questions? <br />
