Waste Disposal and
Spill Control IL -
Polycarbonate Waste Disposal Procedure — LTI Clean N' Coat
Waste from the polycarbonate units must be properly cured and disposed of
on a daily basis. Following is the procedure:
• Obtain a small aluminum pan. (Use only the small disposable aluminum
pans obtained through Central Purchasing
• Place the pan on the floor next to the polycarbonate waste container
• Transfer the waste from the waste container to the pan as follows:
Remove the drip tubes from the container
Quickly place the ends of the tubes in the aluminum
pan
Carefully pour the liquid from the plastic waste
container into the aluminum pan. The liquid must
form a thin layer in the pan (approx. 1/4")
• Be careful to avoid any spills, use Cob-Dri to clean any spills.
• Replace drip tubes in waste container and re-secure under Clean n' Coat.
• Harden the liquid waste as follows:
Place the aluminum pan in the UV waste curing
system
Cure the waste 20 to 30 minutes, the waste will turn
into a solid. Turn off the UV light when completed.
Note: If the waste takes more than 30 minutes to cure, verify all associates are coating lenses
according to the procedure outlined in QIVIP or replace the UV bulb if needed. (UV bulbs
should be replaced at least quarterly.)
• Place each waste pan into a separate plastic bag and close the bag. Use a
Post-it Note to label the bag with the date and time.
• After 24 hours, throw the bags of solidified waste into the trash.
LensCrafters Health&Safety Manual,January 2003
02002 LensCrafters,Inc.All Rights Reserved 2
