(Terracon) is pleased to submit this letter regarding the <br />evaluation of brake rotor shavings conducted for the above referenced sites on December 1, <br />2011. This evaluation was performed in accordance with an Environmental Work Order, <br />dated November 21, 2011. <br />Background <br />Terracon understands that Sears Auto Centers operate lathes at their facilities to resurface <br />automotive brake rotors and drums. The metal shavings from these lathing operations are <br />collected in bins or containers and periodically taken off-site for recycling. <br />Brake Shaving Sample Collection <br />Terracon was retained by Sears Holdings Corporation to assess if the brake rotor shavings <br />at the Sears Auto Center locations in the Sacramento area could be characterized as "non- <br />hazardous waste". <br />As requested by Sears, one representative sample of the brake shavings was collected from <br />each of the following stores: <br />1.
