4 <br />GUIDE0 0 1 <br />Specification <br />s • :, WALL FIBERGLASSREINFORCED ., <br />STIC (FRP) UNDERGROUND <br />-, <br />SHORT FORM: <br />The contractor shall provide Double Wall Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) <br />U.L. labeled underground storage tanks as shown on the drawings. Sizes and <br />fittings shall be as shown. The tanks shall be fiberglass tanks as manufactured by <br />XERXES CORPORATION. <br />Tanks shall be tested and installed with pea gravel or crushed stone as specified <br />in the current installation instructions provided with the tank. <br />LONG FORM: Section 15177-1 <br />Part I General = <br />1.01 Related Work Specified in Other Sections <br />A. Acceptable Manufacturer: XERXES CORPORATION <br />B. Governing Standards; primarytank: <br />1. ASTM standard document number D4021-81. <br />2. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (U.L.) Standard for Safety 1316, File <br />MH 9061 for storage of flammable liquids. A U.L. certification plate <br />shall tie attached to each tank. <br />3. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA30) Flammable and <br />Combustible Liquids Code and (NFPA31) Standard for Installation of <br />Oil Burning Equipment. <br />4. National Sanitation Foundation, Standard 14. <br />5. Factory Mutual Systems approval IM7AOAF. <br />6. Military Specification No. MIL -T-52777. <br />7. City of New York Department of Buildings M. E.A., Division #271-86. <br />C. Governing Standards; secondary tank: <br />1. Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (U.L.) Standard For Safety 1316 File <br />MH 9061 for storage of flammable liquids. A U.L. certification plate <br />shall be attached to each tank. <br />2. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA30) Flammable and <br />Combustible Liquids Code and (NFPA31) Standard for Installation of <br />Oil Burning Equipment. <br />1.03 Submittals <br />A. Shop Drawings: Contractorshall submit copies of shop <br />drawings for each tank. Drawings shall show locations of all fittings, <br />accessories, and critical dimensions. <br />B. Catalog Data: Contractor shall submit copies of manufacturer's <br />literature to include copies of manufacturer's current <br />installation instructions. <br />=art II Products <br />2.01 Double Wall Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Underground Storage <br />Tanks with a Primary (internal) tank and a Secondary (external) tank. <br />A. Loading Conditions - Tank shall meetthe following design criteria: <br />1. Internal load: primary and secondary tanks shall withstand 5 psi air <br />pressure test with 5 to 1 safety factor. Contractor shall individually test <br />tanks prior to installation as this is to test for leakage. Maximum test <br />pressure is 5 psi. <br />2. Vacuum Test: Every tank shall be mercury vacuum tested by the tank <br />manufacturer to assure structural integrity. Primary tank shall be <br />tested to 11.5 inches and secondary tank tested to 9.5 inches mercury <br />vacuum. 1. <br />3. Surface Loads: Tank shall withstand surface H-20 axle loads when <br />properly installed according to current manufacturer's installation <br />instructions. <br />4. External hydrostatic pressure: Buried in ground with 7' of overburden <br />over the top of the tank, the hole fully flooded and a safety factor of 7:1 <br />against general buckling. <br />5. Tanks shall support accessory equipment such as heating coils, drop <br />tubes, submersible pumps, ladders when installed according to tank <br />manufacturer's recommendations and limitations. <br />B. Product Storage: <br />1. Tanks shall be capable of storing petroleum with specific gravity up <br />to 1.1. <br />2. The primarytank shall be vented to atmospheric pressure. The tank is <br />not designed as a pl•essure vessel. <br />3. Tanks shall be capable of storing gasoline or gasohol (10% ethanol <br />and 90% gasoline mixture), 90.5% gasoline and 9.5% Oxinol-50' <br />(4.75% methanol and 4.75% GTBA mixture); Dupont EPA waiver <br />'TM Arco Chemical Co. <br />(gasoline with 5% methanol and a minimum of 2.5% cosolvent - the <br />blend may contain a maximum concentration of up to 3.7 weight per- <br />cent oxygen in the final fuel); MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) - <br />gasoline with up to 20%, by volume, of MTBE; jet fuel; av-gas; kero- <br />sene; diesel fuel; motor oil; or potable water at ambient underground <br />temperatures; or used for fuel oil at temperatures not to exceed 150°F. <br />C. Materials: <br />1. Tanks (primary and secondary) shall be manufactured with 100 <br />isophthalic polyester resin and glass fiber reinforcement with no sand <br />fillers. <br />D. Annular Space <br />1. Tank shall have a space between the primary and secondary shell <br />walls to allow for the free flow and containment of all leaked product <br />from the primary tank. Space also allows the insertion of a monitoring <br />device through a monitoring fitting. <br />E. Tank Dimensions (Refer to Xerxes literature on gallonage.) <br />1. Tank shall have nominal capacity of gallons. <br />2. Tank shall have nominal outside diameter of feet. <br />3. Tank shall have approximate overall length of feet. <br />2.02 Accessories <br />A. Optional anchor straps -Provide FRP anchor straps as manufactured by <br />tank manufacturer. Number and location of straps shall be specified in <br />current literature of tank manufacturer. Each strap shall be capable of <br />withstanding the buoyancy load for tank diameter as shown <br />40- 4,200lbs. 80-25,000lbs., 120-26,000 lbs <br />60 -18,000 lbs. 100 - 32,000 lbs, <br />B. Manways <br />1. All manways to be flanged and 22" I.D. complete with U.L. listed gas- <br />kets, bolts and covers. (30" and 36" 1. D. manways are also available). <br />2. Location as shown on drawings. <br />3. Optional manway extension tubes shall be FRP and 24" long for <br />manways shown on drawings. <br />4. Each steel manway cover shall have three - 4" NPTfittings welded in <br />place. <br />C. Fill Tubes <br />1. Optional tubes shall be FRP and factory installed by manufacturer. <br />2. Location as shown on drawing. <br />3. Tubes shall be 4" diameter with 6" steel fitting and a 6" x 4" double <br />tapped reducer bushing. <br />D. Gauge Plates - Shall be installed under each fitting. <br />E. Heating Coils <br />1. Optional heating coils shall be installed in a separate 22" manway and <br />shall be a standard item supplied by tank manufacturer. <br />2. Location as shown on drawings. <br />F. Ladders - Shall be standard ladder as supplied by tank manufacturer. <br />G. NPT Threaded Fittings <br />1. All threaded fittings shall be a material of construction consistent with <br />the requirements of the U.L. label. <br />2. All standard thread fittings shall be half couplings and shall be 4" in <br />diameter. Reducers are to be used forsmaller sizes where shown and <br />provided by contractor. <br />3. Sizes Standard Other Sizes <br />Fill . 4^ <br />Gauge 4" <br />Inlet 4" <br />Outlet 4" <br />Vent 4" <br />4. Suction Line - Shall be installed by contractor on site. Pipes shall <br />terminate a minimum of 4" from bottom of tank. <br />5. Return line shall be installed by contractor. <br />H. Monitor Fittings <br />1. Tank shall have one or two test monitor fittings, each consisting of a 4" <br />NPT fitting on the secondary tank. <br />Part III Execution <br />3.01, 3.02 Installation and Testing _ <br />Tanks shall be tested and installed according to current Double Wall installation <br />instructions provided with the tank.
