(Delta) was contracted by ARCO Products Company (ARCO)
to perform soil sampling beneath former dispenser locations during dispenser island replacement
activities at ARCO Facility No. 2130 (the Site; see Figure 1), located at 7906 N. EI Dorado Street in
Stockton, California. The purpose of the soil sampling was to fulfill requirements of San Joaquin
Public Health Services. This letter report presents the data collected during the former dispenser
sampling.
Soil Sampling
On September 28, 1999, a Delta representative, working under the direction of a California Registered
Geologist, visited the Site to collect soil samples from beneath former dispenser locations and
associated former product piping. Delta collected soil samples beneath the former dispenser locations
under the direction of Inspector Matthew Parker. Four dispenser samples were collected and identified
as DP -1-3.5 through DP4-3.5 (Figure 1). The samples were collected at a depth of approximately 3.5
feet below the former dispenser locations. Seven soil samples were collected beneath former product
pipelines and identified as PL -1-3.5, PL -2-3.5, PL -34.5, PL -4-5.5, PL -54.5, PL -6-3.5 and PL -7-3.5.
These samples were collected at a depth of approximately 3.5 to 5.5 feet beneath the former pipeline
locations. Each soil sample location was exposed with a hand auger and each sample was collected
using a slide hammer to drive a brass sampling tube into the soil. The ends of each brass tube were
then covered using TeflonTm sheets and plastic caps. Each sample was sealed, labeled with the ARCO
station number, sample name, collection date, and collection time. Each sample was identified on the
standard ARCO chain of custody. To avoid cross contamination between samples, all sampling
equipment was washed with an aqueous solution of AlconoxTm detergent, rinsed with potable water,
and rinsed again with distilled water.
Providing a Competitive Edge
