J
one end of the strainer assembly with a modified cap that connects directly to the product line. When we test the LLD
we replace the 4 bolt cap on the other end of the strainer assembly with a cap that has one or two NPT openings. We
connect the test equipment to one of the NPT openings and plug the other one. Below is a picture of the strainer cap
with the NPT openings.
Cindy Vo has asked us to get a letter from the leak detector manufacturer that states that the test cap can be used to
test the LLD and will not affect its operation. Below is a quick summary of how we test the LLD
The following procedure will be used to test the mechanical line leak detector
1) Turn power off to the product turbine
2) Remove the existing strainer cap and install the modified strainer cap
3) Connect the Vaporless test equipment to the test cap
4) Turn power back on to the product turbine
5) Energize the turbine, check test cap and test equipment for leaks
6) Dispense some fuel to purge air from the system
7) When dispensing is complete leave the turbine energized and calibrate test equipment to simulate a 3GPM leak
at 10psi
8) Shut down the system and bleed line pressure down to Opsi
9) Energize the system with the simulated leak, verify the mechanical line leak detector sees the simulated leak
and stays in a slow flow condition
10) Close the simulated leak and verify the mechanical line leak detector opens to full operating pressure
11) Shutdown the system and turn power off to the turbine
12) Remove the test cap, install the standard strainer cap, re-energize the system and check for leaks
It has been over 30 days since I asked for a letter. I know that the holidays may have slowed down the response. I need
to get back to the inspector so we can schedule the LLD test.
Please let me know if you have any questions, need additional information, can't issue the letter, or feel that the test
cap can't be used. I would appreciate a response.
