Technical Description
SYSTEM -- CENTRAL CONTROL UNIT WITH FOUR SENSORS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
As shown in the drawings that follow, System 1 consists
of four fiber optic liquid hydrocarbon sensors, each of
which is contained within standard two (2) inch diameter
screen pipe.
Fiber connectors connect the sensor to the fiber optic
cables which in turn are connected to the control/monitor
unit. As shown in Section A -A of the cross-section diagram,
the interconnecting fiber optic cables are permanently buried
in either the ground or in the concrete. Since the fiber optic
cables do not carry electric currents -- the fiber optic cables
do not require conduit to contain them.
We believe that the installation costs will be greatly
reduced over electric type sensors, e.g., electrical contrac-
tors will not be required (there is no electricity beyond
the control unit; and, the control unit itself is battery
operated, normally).
Control Unit Description
The control unit is a NEMA waterproof, steel enclosure
which is easily installed above ground. Fiber optic connectors
on the bottom of the enclosure allow ease of installation in the
field.
