Icon
AUG"2 6 ''T!
Containment Solutions
Ai
ProTex Fitting Material
Icon Containment Solutions, LLC has been actively researching and testing a range of
materials for its various products since our beginning, for the purpose of identifying the most
durable, lasting, and compatible materials for the petroleum storage system repair applications
we support. This is an ongoing process and will continue to be a major part of our mission.
Besides our field and shop testing, we have used the resources, testing, and expertise of
suppliers, customers, polymer materials manufacturers, Underwriter Laboratories, and
independent research laboratories, including the European Polymer Research Laboratory at
Queens University (Belfast Ireland) to confirm the suitability of the materials and applications
we offer for the challenging environments represented in UST and AST secondary containment
sumps.
Its critical to our repair fitting product offering that the material can be split and chemically
bonded together such that a repair can be applied without disconnecting pipe. Although
urethane based materials have typically been used for this application successfully for many
years, some have shown vulnerability to microbial corrosion and fuel vapor degradation over
time in some environments. Ultimately, Icon is looking for materials that are more durable than
all other common materials used in our market today.
Icon is very pleased to announce that we have newly released a material labeled ProTex, an
exciting improvement in material design for flexible Split-Repair sump entry and test fitting
components. Icon ProTex is a non-urethane, engineered copolymer design that is split-
bondable, all fuels compatible (methanol, ethanol, and bio-fuel blends), and meets all other
criteria the industry has established.
Like previous materials, the testing for Icon ProTex addressed the compatibility of all the latest
fuel types and blends, and included true sump environments in which sump fittings are
installed. Benchmark testing with other industry materials in a variety of categories of
performance demonstrates that ProTex performs significantly better than previous UL listed
materials in the industry today. Testing also included High Density Hydrocarbons; Ozone; UV;
High & Low-Temperatures; Water Saturation, and all current types of Fuels Saturation; Tensile
Strength; Flexibility & Compression (with Torque); Microbial Corrosion; and Vibration Stress.
All Icon flexible components for Split-Repair Fittings are now available in ProTex material,
which has been found to comply with UL's requirements regarding fuel compatibility. Icon is
also pursuing UL2447 standard compliance testing that should be completed in 2017. Icon
products are to be installed by Icon Certified Installers, and are only intended for uses
described in the Icon training and marketing materials. Before use in any other application, user
shall determine the suitability of the product by contacting Icon.
4116
N 855.DRY.SUMP
5 N. Main Street Sty DI
N.
