The site assessment activities consisted of the drilling and installation of three <br /> groundwater monitoring wells and the advancement of cone penetrometer test(CPT) borings ate,: <br /> • six locations at the site. Groundwater samples were collected from the monitoring wells during' <br /> two events and slug tests were performed on the three wells. The purpose of this assessment was <br /> to determine if methyl tertiary butyl ether(MtBE) is a potential threat to a municipal drinking <br /> water supply well (Well #27) located to the south of the site (Figure 1). The work was performed <br /> in accordance with SECOR's work plan, dated September 19, 2001, which was approved by the <br /> San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) on October 9, 2001. <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> The site is an operating Chevron service station located in a commercial area of Stockton, <br /> California. The current station facilities include two dispenser islands and a mini-mart under a <br /> common canopy, three gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs), and a carwash(Figure 2). <br /> ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS <br /> Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling <br /> On October 15 and 16, 2001, SECOR supervised Cascade Drilling of Rancho Cordova, <br /> California, as they advanced three soil borings to approximately 70 feet below ground surface <br /> (bgs) at the locations shown on Figure 2. Soil samples for logging and chemical analysis were <br /> collected in five foot intervals and a two-inch diameter groundwater monitoring well was <br /> installed in each boring. After completion the wells were developed and groundwater samples <br /> were collected on November 13 and 14, 2001.
