WORK PLAN FOR ADDITIONAL SOIL VAPOR SURVEY
Proposed Assessment Activities
May 30, 2014
Sample collection and tracer gas monitoring data for each sampling location will be
recorded on the soil vapor sample collection data log provided in Appendix C.
Each vapor sample will be properly labeled with a unique sample number (APSV or
UPSV location and depth with date and time sampled) and transported to the
laboratory at ambient temperature under chain-of-custody documentation. Prior to
the collection of the soil vapor samples, Stantec will verify that a significant
precipitation event (greater than 0.5 inch) has not occurred within 5 days prior to the
scheduled sampling event.
Schematics of the soil vapor sampling apparatus are included as Figure 3.
3.7 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SOIL AND VAPOR SAMPLES
3.7.1 Soil Matrix Parameters
The following soil matrix parameters, in addition to visual soil description using the
Unified Soil Classification System (USCS),will be obtained from a minimum of two
locations and representative stratigraphy at the site for use in vapor transport modeling
(if deemed necessary):
• Dry bulk density;
• Organic carbon content;
• Soil moisture;
• Total porosity (air and water filled); and
• Grain size distribution analysis.
Relatively undisturbed soil matrix samples will be collected in stainless steel sleeves using
a hand-drive sampler.Soil matrix parameters will be analyzed using applicable
American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) methods.
3.7.2 Laboratory Analysis of Soil Vapor
The following VOCs identified as chemicals of concern will be analyzed:
• TPHg (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in gasoline range);
• BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Total Xylenes);
• Naphthalene;
• MTBE (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether);
• TBA (Tertiary Butyl Alcohol);
• ETBE (Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether);
• DIPE (Di-Isopropyl Ether);
• TAME (Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether); and
• Methane
3.9
