15 October 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 03-1079
Page 3 of 5
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK TASKS
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, the area around the borings will be clearly marked and a utility clearance
obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
AGE proposes to advance five soil probe borings using direct push technology. One boring will be
advanced adjacent to each hydraulic lift; these borings will be advanced to depths of 15 feet(bsg).
A fifth soil probe boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 5 feet bsg near the waste oil
storage shed.As each boring is advanced,soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals beginning
at 5 feet bsg (2 feet bsg at the waste oil storage area) and extending to the total depth of the probe
boring.
The proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2. Field procedures for advancement
of probe borings and collection of soil samples are presented in Section 4.1.
Selected soil samples from each probe boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis.The selected
samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified
laboratory for one or more the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as hydraulic fluid (TPH-hf) in accordance with
EPA Method 8015M;
• Poly-chlorinated bi-phenols (PCBs) in accordance with EPA Method 8080;
• Total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons(TRPH)in accordance with EPA Method 418.1.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
3.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of field work and receipt of final laboratory analysis, a report will be prepared
presenting the findings of the investigation. The report will include a description of the work
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
