Incidental spills are those that occur periodically at our locations as the result of movement and storage of our products,
or because of equipment leaks or similar events.
• Once it has been determined that a spill is incidental and safe to clean up,log into SECAT.
• Create a waste label for the product.
• On the home screen, click the"Create Waste Label"button for the material involved in the incident/spill.
• Print the label, which will show the spill clean-up instructions.
• Gather the supplies needed to clean up the spill, and follow the instructions from SECAT.
• Place a liner in an accumulation container, and place all clean-up debris in the liner, close the lid,and place the
signed SECAT label on the side of the container.
• Place the accumulation container in the appropriate zone in the Hazardous Waste Central Accumulation Area, per
the SECAT label.
Emergency Spill
Any spill that is not deemed to be incidental is considered an emergency spill, which includes spills over the road,
particularly hazardous or sensitive materials, and any spill that the DEA is not comfortable managing.
• Once it has been determined that a spill is an emergency spill, immediate steps must be taken in response.
• Notify your location manager of the spill and then report it to the 24-Hour Emergency Incident Reporting Line
(877-446-3643)as soon as practicable.
• If safe to do so,isolate the area of the spill to prevent access to others and to prevent spilled material from
entering waterways or drainage systems by placing absorbent materials on or around the spill.
• The EHS Team will contact your location manager and HD Supply's third-party spill response vendor to perform the
necessary emergency response.
Episodic Generation
• An episodic event is an activity or activities, either planned or unplanned, that generates an unusually large amount
of Hazardous Waste.
• If a location suspects they have had or will have an episodic event, contact the Enterprise EHS Team at
gsc.ehs.info@hdsupplv.com as soon as possible.
• If the Enterprise EHS Team determines the event will qualify for episodic generation, complete the episodic
generation request form found in the appendix of the Hazardous Waste Management Standard.
• Follow the additional instructions that will be provided by the Enterprise EHS Team.
Satellite Accumulation Container
• Identify an appropriate location for the satellite accumulation container.
• Must be at or near the point of waste generation.
• Must be under the control of the operator, which is the person who generated the waste.
• Identify the product and log into SECAT.
• Create a waste label for the product.
• On the home screen,click the"Create Waste Label"button.
• Change"Satellite Accumulation"to"Yes."
• If the waste is a non-inventory item(sweepings,various aerosol cans,oily rags),change"Is the waste a
non-inventory item"to"Yes."
• Click the small up arrow beside the material drop-down to display a list of materials.
