02 July 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1168
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK TASKS
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard.and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL AND GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
AGE proposes to advance two soil borings at the site. Each boring shall be advanced to a maximum
depth of 45 feet below surface grade(bsg)or until"first"ground water is encountered;ground water
is anticipated to occur between 40 and 50`feet bsg. Soil samples will be collected at five-foot
intervals; a grab ground water sample will be collected from each boring.
The proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.One boring will be advanced within
the former UST excavation area;a second boring will be advanced near the former dispenser island
area. Field procedures for advancement of probe borings and collection of soil and ground water
samples are presented in Sections 4.1,4.2.and 4.3.
Selected soil and ground water samples from each probe boring will be submitted for laboratory
analysis. The selected samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health
Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for one or more the following constituents:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015M; and
• Volatile organic compounds,including benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX),
and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8260M.
Laboratory reports for soil and ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control'(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be
presented in a report with findings and recommendations.
3.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of field work and receipt of final laboratory analysis, a report will be prepared
presenting the findings of the investigation. The report will include a description of the work
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
