t
tank(depth of cover+ S ft. + 1 ft.). Soil samples will be taken from opposite sides of the
tank and analyzed for TPH motor oil and TPH diesel. The samples will be stored in an
iced container and transported under chain of custody to a state certified laboratory for
analysis. Soil cuttings will be stored in a labeled drum on site pending receipt of
analytical results. Similarly, the concrete slab will not be repaired until the analytical
results have been received and evaluated, in case additional action is required.
The manual sampler equipment will be used to probe for the presence of underground
tanks in front of the Parts Building. This probing will be more extensive than that
required for the used oil tank, as it will be necessary to define the size and location of two
tanks (if present), before soil samples can be taken. Depending on the results of the
probing, two samples per tank(opposite sides)will be taken, 12 inches below the bottom
of the tanks, and analyzed for TPH diesel and TPH gasoline. Samples will be stored in an
iced container and transported under chain of custody to a state certified laboratory for
analysis. Once again, the pavement will not be repaired until analytical results have been
received and evaluated. Soil cuttings will be stored in a labeled drum on site pending
receipt of analytical results.
6.0 Report Preparation
At the conclusion of the work described above, a report, including findings of the
investigation and all analytical results, will be prepared and forwarded to the SJEHD.
Closure letters will be requested as appropriate.
7.0 Health and Safety
A Health and Safety plan to support field activities has been developed as a stand alone
document and is included in Appendix A.
4
i
