0
Jim Crandell 3
Robert Mondavi Winery 8 October 2004
b. A Groundwater Characterization Workplan that describes a plan to evaluate the hydrogeology
and water quality of shallow groundwater underlying the facility, the relationship between the
river and underlying shallow groundwater, and the impact of historical process wastewater
discharge and other discharge practices on underlying shallow groundwater. If the workplan
proposes to use existing domestic, irrigation, or off-site monitoring wells, then the workplan
shall demonstrate why the proposed wells should be used as part of the groundwater monitoring
network, provide well construction details (well logs, as-builts, down-hole investigations) for
proposed wells, describe when and how the well is pumped, and justify why the proposed well(s)
is preferential to a dedicated monitoring well. The workplan shall identify the wells to be
sampled, sampling frequency, and constituents to be analyzed. The need for installation of
additional monitoring wells shall be discussed. If the installation of additional monitoring wells
is found to be necessary, the Groundwater Characterization Workplan shall include a
Groundwater Well Installation Workplan that describes the installation of additional monitoring
wells to determine background conditions and assess the impacts of process wastewater
discharge on underlying groundwater. The Groundwater Well Installation Workplan shall be
prepared in accordance with, and shall include the items listed in, Section 1 of the enclosed
Requirements for Monitoring Well Installation Workplan and Monitoring Well Installation
Reports.
2. If the Groundwater Characterization Workplan included a Groundwater Well Installation
Workplan, then by 1 April 2005, Robert Mondavi Corporation shall submit a Monitoring Well
Installation Report that contains the information described in Section 2 of the enclosed
Requirements for Monitoring Well Installation Workplan and Monitoring Well Installation
Reports.
3. By 1 March 2006, Robert Mondavi Corporation shall submit a Wastewater Characterization and
Wastewater System Evaluation Report that presents the results of the approved wastewater
characterization and wastewater system evaluation. The report shall characterize the wastewater,
identify potential problem areas, and evaluate potential upgrades to the existing wastewater system
that will protect underlying groundwater from degradation by future discharges.
4. By 1 May 2006, Robert Mondavi Corporation shall submit a Groundwater Characterization Report
that describes the hydrogeologic conditions and groundwater quality underlying the facility, and the
relationship between the river and underlying shallow groundwater. The report shall also assess the
impact of historical process wastewater discharge and other historical practices on underlying
shallow groundwater, and evaluate the potential impacts of future wastewater discharges on
underlying shallow groundwater. The report shall identify the wells that were sampled, sampling
frequency, and constituents that were analyzed.
5. By 1 August 2006, Robert Mondavi Corporation shall submit a Report of Waste Discharge (RWD)
that includes a Wastewater System Improvement Plan and a Final System Design. The Wastewater
System Improvement Plan shall evaluate the wastewater, salinity, and nitrate reduction, reuse,
recycling and treatment options, and shall identify best management practices and best practicable
California Environmental Protection Agency
d Recycled Paper
