Section 2
SITE DESCRIPTION
The Thornton Gas Dehydrator Station occupies an area of about one-eighth of an acre which is relatively
flat and covered with gravel fill. The Thornton Gas Dehydrator Station lies at an elevation of
approximately 10 feet above mean sea level in the San Joaquin Valley. The Mokelumne River, located
approximately 500 feet to the north and east of the site, is the nearest surface water body. The adjacent
land to the north, south, and east is used for agricultural farmland. Railroad tracks built on an elevated
embankment lie west of the site.
The unattended facility has been used for odorizing and removing production fluids in natural gas since
1960. Since the early 1960s, the main dehydrator tower and glycol reboiler unit have been located in the
northern portion of the site and a production fluids tank has been located in the southern portion of the site
(Figure 2). The glycol reboiler included a still for condensing the production fluid vapors which drained to
two nearby sumps. During the 1970s a second production fluids tank was installed in the southern portion
of the site and both production fluid tanks were connected to the reboiler unit by underground discharge
lines. Since that time, all production fluids generated from the reboiler unit have been piped to the above-
ground production fluids tanks for storage.
cca09/17/93(9784a.doc)cp45) 2-1
