Caring for Vour piercing
Cleaning your piercing: When taking a shower, wash your hands and entire body
first before touching your piercing. You can continue to use regular soap in the shower. But keep
it away from your piercing. Never use scented wash or anything with dyes. Shield piercing from
harsh streams of water. Lather some soap in hands and suds up your jewelry and surrounding
area. As soon as finished, wash piercing thoroughly. Clean piercing 2-3 times a day. Do this for
about 4-8 weeks.
Remember: Never touch jewelry! The only time you should touch it is when you are
cleaning! Keep animal hair away from piercing (pets carry germs). If using hair product (i.e. hair
spray) be sure to clean piercing immediately after. Get plenty of rest and maintain a good diet. It
will help speed up the healing process. Ibuprofen is good for swelling and pain
Do not use on piercing: Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Bactine, Ear solution A&D,
Neosporin, Bacitracin and other ointments, Dial liquid soap.
Oral Plercings: Listerine and other alcohol mouth rinses are not permitted for new oral
piercings. Clean piercings 2-3 times daily. Rinse mouth every time you eat or smoke. No oral
contact for at least 4-8 weeks. You could risk the chance of infection. Ice is good for swelling
and discomfort. Elevation is also good for swelling. Changing toothbrushes is recommended for
new oral piercings.
What to do for an infection
Sea salt soaks are best for standard body piercings. Sea salt is best for body piercings because
they don't contain iodine. Heat up a cup of water and add salt. You should use 1/8 of a teaspoon
for every ounce of water. Let the water be hot enough to where it's not going to burn you. Hold
cup over piercing and create a seal so the solution doesn't leak. Let the piercing soak for 5-10
minutes. If it's a hard to reach spot such as ears or lip, soak a gauze pad and hold it to piercing.
Rinse piercing thoroughly and dry with a paper towel or tissue.
