SECTION 11 <br /> PROCEDURES FOR DECONTAMINATING, PACKAGING, STERILIZING AND STORING <br /> REUSABLE INSTRUMENTS <br /> An instrument or other reusable item that comes into contact with non-intact skin or mucosal <br /> surfaces shall either be single-use or be washed, disinfected, packaged and sterilized after each <br /> procedure. <br /> Describe how instruments or other reusable items shall be washed, disinfected and packaged. <br /> Tattoo tubes will be taken directly from the procedure area as soon as procedure is finished. <br /> Tubes will be completely dismantled and each component placed in stainless steel tray filled <br /> with disinfectant soak. Tubes and all components will be placed in ultrasonic cleaner filled <br /> with clean water and Alconox critical cleaner. Items will then be hand scrubbed under running <br /> water and dried prior to packaging. Cleaned tubes and components will then be bagged <br /> unassembled and each package will be labeled with date, operator's initials, assigned batch <br /> number, and contents. Piercing tools will be required to go through the same cleaning <br /> procedure as tattoo tubes. All tools that are hinged or can close will be bagged in a fully open <br /> position to ensure proper sterilization. <br /> List all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used when cleaning and washing instruments and <br /> equipment: Disposable poly apron, disposable poly arm sleeves, disposable nitrile gloves, <br /> eye protection. <br /> An instrument or reusable item that does not come in contact with non-intact skin or mucosal <br /> surfaces shall be washed with a solution of soap and water, using a brush that is small enough <br /> to clean the interior surfaces and decontaminate after each procedure. A reusable item that <br /> cannot be immediately washed, disinfected, and sterilized following the completion of the body <br /> art procedure shall be placed in a basin of water with or without detergent. <br /> Describe the type of container that is used to store the instruments when soaking or washing. <br /> What solution is used? <br /> Stainless steel medical trays with lids. A solution of Metricide 28 to be used for each tray and <br /> logged when filled and replaced. <br /> Location of the soaking instruments: Placed on shelves in designated sterilization room area. <br /> Page 3 of 24 <br />
