POL I CY <br />Contaminated materials will be isolated from non -contaminated <br />materials and areas. <br />PURPOSE <br />To prevent infectious materials from contaminating Clean areas <br />and becoming a hazard to the environment. <br />Donf%C'M 10C <br />Infectious cases will be done at the end of the day schedule. <br />All equipment not essential in the O.R. Suite will be removed <br />from the room. <br />Traffic in and out of the O.R. Room will be kept to an absolute <br />minimum. When ever possible an inside and an outside circulator <br />will be utilized. <br />All contaminated linen and trash will be "Double - Bagged" before <br />leaving the operating room. Instruments will be washed in a <br />disinfective solution, rinsed and placed directly into the <br />autoclave for decontamination. <br />The bagged contaminated linen and trash shall be transported to <br />the dirty room in the biohazard transport container to await <br />autoclaving. <br />The disinfective solution wi I I be discarded into the Hopper and <br />the room wi I I be termi na I I y c I eaned . All rags and mops used to <br />clean the room will be bagged and de I t with as contaminated <br />linen. <br />The patient wi I I be recovered in the isolation area by Recovery <br />Room personnel not involved in the recovery of "Clean" patients <br />at that time. <br />Any waste deemed infectious by the attending physician shall be <br />placed in a container and autoclaved at 270 degrees for 20 <br />minutes prior to being discarded into the regular disposal area. <br />6/88 (E-15) <br />
