Secure area.
PPE
If not already worn, put on personal protective equipment
Contain Spill
Stop the source if possible.
Confine Spill
Confine the spill to initial spill area using appropriate control
equipment and material. Create dikes to prevent runoff into
storm drains, sanitary sewer drains, irrigation ditches, and
streams.
From upwind, apply Absorbent to spilled material (start at
perimeter and work inwards). Completely blanket the spilled
material. Using a non -sparking shovel, mix absorbent as
needed to facilitate the absorption process. Continue to add
absorbent until vapor is eliminated and spill is completely
absorbed.
Neutralize Spill
Slowly apply SOLVENT HANDLER to spilled material (start at
perimeter and work inwards). Completely blanket the spilled
material. DO NOT MIX. Allow to stand for complete
polymerization process, according to the manufacturer's
direction, usually a maximum of 15 minutes. Vapors are
eliminated after 3 to 4 minutes.
Spill Area Cleanup
Spill Waste: Scoop up waste material, pads, pillows and any
other materials used to clean the spill and put them into a
leak proof container. Label the container with name of the
hazardous material. Wipe up residual material. Wipe spill
area surface 3 times with a detergent solution. Rinse with
clean water.
• Reusable Spill Supplies: (e.g. goggles, shovels, etc.)
Collect supplies and remove gross contamination. Wipe
surfaces so they are free of visible contamination. Place into
separate container for equipment that will be thoroughly
washed and decontaminated.
Disposal Procedures
Important: Check with the EH&S for assistance with waste
determination and proper disposal procedures
Reporting
Follow appropriate internal and external spill notification
procedures. Note, special notification requirement if spill has
affected properties other than Kaiser Permanente (e.g., entered
waterway or storm drain).
Safety Management Program 2.
Attachment EC.HZ.056A
