List the types of medical Waste generated at your facility <br />• Clinical and other biological waste <br />• Sharps (needles, syringes, blades etc.) <br />• Patient care items from rooms or areas in which special isolation precautions have <br />been utilized <br />• Pharmaceutical waste — Non -hazardous <br />• Pathological and surgical waste <br />2. Estimate the monthly amount of medical waste generated at your facility <br />• Kaiser Permanente Stockton generates approximately 200 pounds/month <br />3. Describe the medical waste handling procedures utilized by and applicable to <br />your facility <br />(a) Onsite location and method for segregation, containment, packaging, labeling, <br />and collection <br />Each department is responsible for separating bio -hazardous waste at the point of <br />origin and disposing of them in containers lined with red infectious waste bags or, if <br />red bags are temporarily unavailable, in containers clearly marked on all sides with <br />words "Bio -Hazardous Waste". Sharps are to be contained first in locked, impervious <br />bio -hazardous containers. Pharmaceutical waste are segregated, contained and labeled <br />according to appendix "A". <br />Reusable rigid containers are used to ti-ansport medical waste from the department to <br />the containment area. These containers shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary <br />manner. These containers are lined with plastic liners. When liners become soiled, the <br />liner is removed and placed in a biohazardous bag. The container is then relined. The <br />method of decontamination is exposure to germicide solution for a minimum of three <br />minutes or exposure to hot water of at least 180 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of <br />15 seconds. <br />Revised June 8, 2007 <br />Plan maintained by Stockton EVS Department <br />
