Medical Waste Management Plan <br /> Kaiser Permanente Manteca <br /> 1. List the types of medical waste generated at your facility <br /> ♦ Clinical and other biological waste <br /> ♦ Sharps(needles, syringes, blades etc) <br /> ♦ Patient care items from isolation rooms or other rooms/areas in which infected <br /> patients have been treated. <br /> 2. Estimate the monthly amount of medical waste generated at your facility. <br /> Kaiser Permanente Manteca Generates approximately 200 pounds/month <br /> 3. Describe the medical waste handling procedures utilized by and applicable to your <br /> facility: <br /> a. Onsite location and method for segregation,containment,packaging, labeling, <br /> and collection. <br /> Each department is responsible for separating bio-hazardous waste at the point of <br /> origin and disposing of them in containers lined with red infectious waste bags or, if <br /> red bags are temporarily unavailable, in containers clearly marked on all sides with <br /> words"Bio-Hazardous Waste". Sharps are to be contained first in locked, impervious <br /> bio-hazardous containers. <br /> b. Storage area description with storage methods utilized, including duration and <br /> temperature, if applicable. <br /> The facility maintains a secured area for storage of biohazardous waste pending <br /> disposal. The storage area is marked with warnings that read in English and Spanish <br /> "Caution Biohazardous Waste Storage Area—Unauthorized Persons Keep Out". <br /> These signs are legible from a distance of at least 25 feet. Biohazardous waste shall <br /> not be stored on-site for more than seven days before disposal. <br /> Bio-Hazardous waste is not stored on the premises for more that 96 hours. <br /> c. Onsite treatment facility description, including type of treatment utilized <br /> maximum capacity, time and temperature necessary, alternate contingency plan in <br /> case of equipment failure. <br />
