Estimate the monthly amount of medical waste generated at your facility: • Kaiser Permanente Tracy Medical Office generates approximately 146(average of Jan through Dec 2015)pounds/month of Medical Waste(Excluding Pharmaceutical Waste). • Kaiser Permanente Tracy Medical Offices generates approximately 342(average of Jan through Dec 2015)pounds/month of Pharmaceutical Waste. • This facility is Large Quantity Generator 3. Describe the medical waste handling procedures utilized by and applicable to your facility,including but not limited to the following: (a) Onsite location and method for segregation,containment,packaging,labeling,and collection,including pharmaceutical waste: • All medical waste is separated and disposed at the point of origin. • Waste will be contained in either red bag and/or ridged containers with lids. • Waste will be labeled on all sides and top to be visible from any lateral direction. • Reusable rigid containers are used to transport medical waste from the department to the accumulation area. • All containers shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. • Containers are lined with plastic liners and when liners are removed they are placed in bio hazardous bag. • Carts will be cleaned according to Environmental Services(EVS) Infection Control Policy EC.EV.082 cleaning procedures for medical waste carts. • A person shall thoroughly wash and decontaminate reusable rigid containers for medical waste by a method approved by the enforcement agency each time they are emptied,unless the surfaces of the containers have been completely protected from contamination by disposable liners,bags,or other devices removed with the waste. • Approved methods of decontamination include,but are not limited to,agitation to remove visible soil combined with one of the following procedures: (a)Exposure to hot water of at least 82 degrees Centigrade(180 degrees Fahrenheit) for a minimum of 15 seconds. (b)Exposure to chemical sanitizer by rinsing with,or immersion in,one of the following for a minimum of three minutes: (1)Hypochlorite solution(500 ppm available chlorine).
