11 <br />Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities & Environment Manual <br />Section: Hazardous Materials <br />Title; Blood or Body Fluid Spill Clean Up <br />Policv # <br />OBJECTIVE <br />• To establish protocol for the proper procedure when cleaning up blood or body fluid. <br />PROCEDURE <br />i. All spills of blood and body fluids will be considered as infectious and handled accordingly. <br />2. Block off area and use wet floor caution signs to mark the spill and to direct traffic around the <br />spill. <br />3. Put on gloves and mask. (eye protection, if necessary) <br />4. Obtain spill kit and cover area with a liquid treatment system to solidify spill. Use scoop provided <br />in spill kit. <br />5. Spray area with disinfectant solution. <br />6. Use absorbent wipes to pick up the spill. Used wipes are to be red -bagged. Any sharps will be <br />placed into a sharps container. <br />7. All reusable items used in the clean-up are to be sprayed and wiped with a germicidal solution and <br />a disposable wipe. <br />8. All disposable items are red -bagged. <br />9. Mop heads are to be bagged for the laundry. <br />10.
