• 0 <br />f�;,C Ly <br />Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities c& Environment Manual <br />Section: Hazardous Materials <br />Title: Personal Protective Equipment <br />Policy # <br />OBJECTIVE <br />To prevent exposures when contact with blood and body fluids is anticipated and to minimize the risk of <br />exposure to blood and body fluids of all patients <br />PROCEDURE <br />Gloves will be worn: <br />a. when it can be reasonably anticipated that contact may occur with blood and other <br />potentially infectious matters, mucous membranes, and non -intact skin; <br />b. if an employee has cuts, abraded skin, dermatitis, or a similar condition; <br />C. during all cleaning of body fluids or contaminated instruments; <br />2. Gloves will be changed after contact with each patient or when contaminated, torn, punctured or <br />deteriorated in any way. Staff will wash hands or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer after <br />removing gloves. <br />3. Gloves will be easily accessible to all healthcare workers in the appropriate type and size. <br />4. Eye protection such as masks, goggles, and face shields will be worn whenever splashes, spray, <br />spatter, droplets of blood or other potentially infectious materials may be anticipated. <br />5. Eye protection is easily accessible for all healthcare workers. <br />6. Gowns and other protective body clothing will be a®orn if garments are likely to be splashed or <br />contaminated by blood or other infectious materials. <br />If garments are penetrated by blood or any other potentially infectious material, the garment shall <br />be removed immediately or as soon as feasible.
