Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities & Environment Manual <br />9. Biohazardous waste will not be disposed of with regular waste. Neither will Biohazardous waste <br />be mixed with regular waste within the containers in the facility. Hazardous waste will not be <br />mixed with Biohazardous waste. <br />10. All disposable sharps are to be placed in puncture resistant containers without being bent, broken, <br />or recapped by hand. <br />11. Needles may be recapped by using a one -handed technique, hemostat or other needle recapping <br />device. <br />12. Filled sharps containers will be placed in the infectious waste biohazard bags. <br />13. Patient excretions such as urine and stool may be carefully poured down the bathroom commode <br />using Standard/Universal Precautions <br />14. Pharmaceutical waste is injected or poured into designated rigid containers (which are labeled for <br />this purpose). Vials or bottles containing unused medications may also be placed in the <br />pharmaceutical waste container. No sharps or syringes are allowed in this container.
