NAZARDOUS MATER3*4-S�XIN-*J-0-AT <br />PROGRAM <br />11 <br />POLICY: Lodi Memorial Hospital shall support a hazardous waste <br />disposal system that maintains the safety of patients, <br />employees, visitors and members of the community. In <br />addition, the hospital shall have a systematic approach <br />to handle both small and'large spills in a manner that <br />maintains the safety of patients, employees, visitors <br />and the community. <br />Hazardous materials shall be collected by the department that <br />uses or generates the materials. Hazardous materials shall be <br />transported from the hospital by an approved transporter. The <br />following guidelines promote proper collection of hazardous <br />materials. <br />PROCEDURES: <br />1. All employees handling hazardous materials wear plastic <br />gloves, and additional personal protective equipment <br />(PPE) as indicated by the hazardous Material® <br />Additionally, they should wash their hands frequently. <br />2. Hazardous materials is segregated from medical waste <br />and handled separately. <br />13. Hazardous materials shall be collected in the <br />department, they are picked up and transported by <br />members of the housekeeping department on an "as <br />neededllbasis. <br />4. Medical waste will be placed in red bags, chemotherapy <br />waste is placed in white chemotherapy containers and <br />other hazardous material waste will be placed in clear <br />bags and placed in hazardous materials collections <br />containers. <br />5. Hazardous materials are contanirized 1� labeled and stored <br />on site for pickup. They are then picked up, repacked <br />and manifested by Environmental Management Controls, <br />Turlock, CA. Doors to the hazardous materials waste <br />storage area are kept locked. <br />B <br />
