If a question develops regarding the operation of the unit, check all valves and then notify <br />Maintenance. <br />5. Never place any waste from the solid waste compactor if there is any doubt it has been sterilized. <br />If in doubt, place it into containers within the fenced area and the contracted disposal service <br />provider will remove per our contract. <br />STERILIZER UNIT OPERATION <br />1. Obtain keys for unit from the basement janitors' room. <br />2. Do not attempt to open door of the unit unless the pressure gauge has no reading Indicated. <br />When the door of the unit is safe to open the pressure gauge will drop to "0" (zero). Always check <br />this gauge first and proceed when safe. <br />3. Unlock the padlock and move the chain out of the locked position. Do not remove lock and chain <br />away from the unit. <br />4. Stand away from the unit to allow the safe release of any steam that may be inside the unit and lift <br />the locking latch at the top. <br />5. Turn the arrow knob on the unit handle to the up position. Move the handle up and down until the <br />door releases. <br />6. Open door, fasten the door open with the hook attached to the back wall to prevent the door from <br />closing on you. To open drawer, place the rails down, check for proper alignment. When aligned, <br />pull the drawer out. To close, push the drawer back into the unit, lift rails, and unlock door from <br />the wall. <br />7. When filling the sterilizing unit, the drawer must not be filled beyond 75% maximum capacity for <br />processing of each load. Never overload the drawer. The bags must be closed securely with a <br />twister r tied into a knot before placement inside the unit. The contents of each bag will not exceed <br />50% fluid as a total volume. <br />8. Closing the unit door. Turn the arrow knob on the autoclave handle to the down position. Move <br />the handle up and down until the door is closed well. Do not force closed with strength. When <br />initially closing the door, place your hand on the door handle and push lightly. When closed, close <br />the locking lever at the top. <br />9. To activate the processing cycles, place the key into the switch and turn it to start. The key will <br />automatically return to the start position. Remove the key from the switch and return it to the <br />janitor's room immediately. <br />10. Emergency stop button is located near the switch is a RED button for use to stop the cycle in <br />emergency situations only. <br />REMOVAL OF STERILIZED WASTE FOR COMPACTION AND DISPOSAL <br />1. Obtain keys for unit from the basement janitors' room. <br />2. Do not attempt to open the door of unit unless the pressure gauge has no reading indicated. <br />Always check the gauge first to make sure it is at 110" (zero). <br />3. Check the graph to assure the load has processed at the right temperature and for the proper <br />length of time. Open the door to the graph chart and record the date, time, and initials prior to <br />
