Procedures for final disposal of this medical waste fall into the same categories as those in <br />place within the facility itself. Tracking documents remain on file for a period not less than three years. <br />G. STORAGE OF MEDICAL WASTE <br />Medical waste is not stored longer than 7 days. Storage is provided at locations outside the facility <br />building structure and is secured within a locked, fenced, and covered area preventing unauthorized <br />access. Shelter from the elements is provided. Warning signs are in place in both English and Spanish. <br />Environmental Service Technicians relocate the collected medical waste to the designated storage areas <br />for each facility as outlined in "Transporting Collected Medical Waste" above. <br />H. DISPOSAL <br />The Lodi Memorial Hospital organization utilizes contracted service providers to remove and dispose of <br />medical waste for all facilities. Swift Ave. <br />Fresno, CA 93722 <br />MEDICAL WASTE STERILIZATION <br />At the MAIN FACILITY only, a Mark -Costello autoclave is used for medical waste sterilization. <br />SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS <br />The only material to be sterilized in this unit shall be that which is determined to be Biohazardous <br />Waste as defined at the beginning of these guidelines <br />2. Only employees in Facilities Management, including both Environmental Service and Maintenance <br />divisions may perform operation of the waste sterilizer unit. <br />a. All employees that are required to operate the waste sterilizer must be trained and oriented <br />to the full operation of the unit prior to initiating any operational actions. <br />b. Training will be provided and documented by Environmental Services Manager or <br />designee. <br />c. Training documentation will remain on file. <br />3. Each load will run for a minimum of 45 minutes and be maintained at a temperature reading of 270 <br />degrees F. <br />4. The pressure gauge must hold at 40 -lbs. pressure while the unit is in operation. <br />
