All sharps at all sites
and infectious waste at L.M.H.W. and the Conrad building
are hauled by a licensed hauler.
PROCEDURE:
1. All employees required to operate the waste sterilizer
must be trained/oriented in the full operation of the
unit prior to initiating operational actions. Training
will be provided and documented by a designated
Environmental Service Department Director.
2. Each load will run for a minimum of 30 minutes and be
maintained at a temperature reading of 280 degrees F.
The pressure gauge will read 40 lbs. pressure while
in operation.
3. All waste to be sterilized will be placed inside the
appropriate auto clave bags. The bags must be closed
either with a tie or tied closed prior to being placed
into the unit. The contents of each bag will not exceed
50% fluid as the total volume.
4. The sterilizing unit must not be filled beyond 75% maximum
capacity for processing each load.
5. Environmental Service staff shall be responsible for
changing the graph as needed and turn them into the
Environmental Office.
6. Spore testing will be processed on a monthly basis. The
test results will be maintained in the Environmental
office.
7. A licensed waste hauler will be utilized to provide col-
lection/disposal service for off site area's and all
sharps.
