POLICY <br />• <br />STORAGE OF MEDICAL WASTE <br />D-8420-40 <br />REVISED: JUNE, 2011 <br />PAGE 1 OF 1 <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital collects and stores medical waste in the locked Biohazardous Waste Storage Area <br />until transported by the medical waste hauler. <br />II. PURPOSE <br />To ensure that medical waste is stored in a safe and secure manner to minimize exposure to patients, visitors, <br />staff, and community. <br />III. PROCEDURE <br />A. All biohazardous waste is stored, handled or transported in containers that are leak -resistant, have tight <br />fitting covers and are kept clean and in good repair. <br />B. Biohazard bags and filled sharps containers shall not be stored for more than seven days at a <br />temperature above 32° F. This seven day period begins when any waste is placed into the locked <br />storage area. <br />C. The storage area is marked with signs saying: <br />• En lish: "CAUTION — BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA — <br />UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP OUT", and <br />• <br />Spanish: "CUIDADO — ZONA DE RESIDUOS BIOLOGICOS PELIGROSOS — <br />PROHIBIDA LA ENTRADA A PERSONAS NO AUTORIZADAS". <br />D.
