Medical waste is contained separately from other waste at the point of <br />� <br />origin inthe facility. <br />Procedure <br />�-0 ���� <br />A. Environmental Services (EVS) is in charge of the proper collection and transport of all medical waste <br />within the facility from the interim storage area tothe designated accumulation storage area for pick uphy <br />anauthorized medical waste hauler. See EVSPolicy # <br />yy8440-10.doc."Preparation ofMedical Waste for Off -Site Removal" and # <br />Manaaement\EVS 8440\F8440-450.doc, "Pharmaceutical Waste Handling". <br />B. Documentation of the orientation and training of EVS employees is kept on file in the Environmental <br />Services office. <br />C. All employees are always to use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during collection or <br />handling of medical waste, including the use of fluid -proof gloves, cover coat and face shield when there <br />may beorisk ofsplashing the face aaduring the clean-up ofespill. / <br />� D, Medical waste is removed from the source of generation by nursing or EVS, then placed into collection <br />� <br />tubs located inside dirty utility rooms (interim storage area) at each facility. Environmental Services <br />Technicians then collect the medical waste for transport to the designated accumulation area for pick up <br />byanuu\hnri�ed medioa|wmo8ahau|�/ <br />� . <br />� E. The Medical Waste Hauler/Disposal Vendor exchanges sharps containers for anempty one.
