1. The Medical Waste Disposal Vendor is responsible for collection and removal of the sharps waste. <br />Sharps containers are placed onto a Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) approved transportation <br />carts and appropriately covered. Environmental Services is responsible for placement of empty for <br />full containers and placement of the full containers in the biohazard designated waste containment <br />area if a container becomes full prior to the next scheduled vendor return. <br />• Larger sized sharps containers approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as <br />shipping containers do not require further secondary containment and can be labeled for <br />removal providing the top is securely fastened. <br />2. Used suction canisters are placed into a biohazardous barrel lined with the approved red liner along <br />with the other biohazard waste. <br />3. All medical waste in the biohazardous barrels must be lined with an appropriate dart tested red bag <br />in the holding area/cage. <br />4. Once a barrel is full, the liner is tied the lid closed shut and the barrel is labeled for transportation <br />5. All fully prepared barrels are moved to the section of the caged area designated for "Ready to Ship" <br />containers. <br />6. Pharmaceutical waste containers are placed in the appropriate waste containment area and the <br />Medical Waste Disposal Vendor boxes each container to be D.O.T. ready for transport off-site. <br />Attachments.
