Environmental Services staff is responsible for seeing that the medical waste produced by Lodi Health is i <br />handled safely and in accordance with the Medical Waste Management Act, California Health and Safety <br />| <br />Code Sections 117600-118360 rules and regulations. Facilities Management maintains documentation | <br />related to medical waste handling. <br />B. The Medical Waste Disposal Vendor is responsible for removing and managing the filled pharmaceutical <br />waste containers within Lodi Health (LH). As a contingency plan, Environmental Services will exchange <br />full pharmaceutical or sharps containers for empty between service and transport the full containers to the <br />appropriate designated accumulation containment holding area. The Medical Waste Disposal Vendor <br />transports medical waste off-site for disposal according to regulation guidelines. <br />Purpose <br />LHmanages the medical waste handling and storage in a safe and secure manner to minimize exposure to <br />patients, visitors, staff, and community. <br />A. When cleaning patient care areas, Environmental Services orcontracted janitorial services places all <br />medical red biohazard waste bags into the appropriate rigid container, securely ties the red biohazard bag <br />and places a tight fitting lid, exchanges full sharps containers for empty sharps containers and transports <br />collection tubs to designated biohazard storage area.
