KNOW YOUR BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE <br />California's Medical Waste Management Act provides definitions below <br />RED BAG WASTE <br />Treated by Autoclave <br />Laboratory Waste: Cultures and Stocks of infectious <br />agents; waste from production of bacteria, viruses, spores, <br />discarded live and attenuated vaccines used in healthcare or <br />research. <br />Animal Fluids: suspected by the veterinarian of being <br />contaminated with infectious agents known to be contagious <br />to humans. <br />Fluid Blood Waste: waste, which at the point of transport <br />contains recognizable fluid blood, fluid blood products, <br />containers, or equipment containing blood that is fluid. <br />Isolation Waste: containing discarded materials <br />contaminated with excretions or secretions from humans <br />who are required to be ISOLATED BY THE INFECTION <br />CONTROL STAFF. <br />SHARPS WASTE MUST BE PLACED INTO A <br />SHARPS CONTAINER BEFORE DISPOSAL INTO <br />RED BAG <br />Sharps Waste: any device having acute rigid corners, <br />edges, or protuberances capable of cutting or piercing at the <br />TIME OF DISPOSAL. <br />Ulmfiy <br />W " "t, , , I <br />m, <br />Biotechnology that does not contain human <br />blood or blood products; Urine, feces, saliva, <br />sputum, nasal secretions, sweat, tears, or vomit, <br />unless it contains fluid blood. Paper towels, or <br />articles containing NON-FLUID BLOOD; <br />Hazardous waste, radioactive waste, or <br />household waste. <br />PATHOLOGY WASTE <br />Treated by Incineration <br />Human and Animal specimen cultures from <br />medical and pathology -laboratories <br />Human Surgery Specimens or Tissue: <br />removed during surgery or autopsy, which are <br />suspected by the attending physician and <br />surgeon or dentist of being contaminated with <br />infectious agents' known to be contagious to <br />humans, and/or fixed in formaldehyde or other <br />fixative. (Pour off fixative prior to disposal) <br />Animal Parts, Tissues or Carcasses: suspected <br />by the veterinarian of being contaminated with <br />infectious agents known to be contagious to <br />humans. <br />TRACE CHEMOTHERAPY <br />WASTE <br />Treated by Incineration <br />Waste contaminated through contact with <br />Chemotherapeutic Agents, including, but <br />not limited to, gloves, disposable gowns, <br />towels, and intravenous solution bags and <br />attached tubing, which are EMPTY. <br />Chemotherapy Sharps — any device having <br />acute rigid corners should be placed into a <br />sharp container. <br />PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE <br />Treated by Incineration <br />Non-RCRA Pharmaceuticals: Non - <br />Regulated or over-the-counter human or <br />veterinary drugs. (NOT HAZARDOUS) <br />
