St. Joseph's Medical Center <br />Policies and Procedures <br />307.0 CONT INGENCY PLAN FOR WASTE EQUIPMENT FAILURE <br />307.1 POLICY <br />A plan will be implemented to handle Bio -Hazardous waste in the event of an <br />equipment failure or any other event that interrupts the treatment and/or removal <br />of bio -hazardous waste from the medical center. <br />307.2 PROCEDURE <br />Equipment failure or any event that interrupts the treatment and/or removal of <br />bio -hazardous waste from the medical center will be handled with the following <br />procedures: <br />1. Notify the Environmental Services Department Manager and/or <br />supervisor. <br />2. The Manager/Supervisor will contact Stericycle at 916-985-5506 and <br />request immediate pick up service for bio -hazardous waste. Stericycle is <br />contracted with CHW to pick up medical waste and they will deliver <br />appropriate barrels for storage and pick up. <br />3. The Environmental Services staff transporting the medical waste to the <br />treatment area will place the red bio -hazardous bags into the stericycle <br />barrels. The barrel lids must be maintained tightly on top of the barrels. <br />All of the barrels must be kept inside the locked fenced area. <br />Revised 12/2003 <br />Reviewed 7/13/2007 <br />
