BSI Procedure- <br />Impler,*ntation of BSI for all patients initially will be added to the <br />current CDC reconcivnded calories of isolation. <br />After the educational process of staff is completed and the necessary <br />equipnTnt is available in all patient roorns, BSI system will eliminate <br />the need for Enteric, Drainage/Secretion, Contact, Strict AFB, and <br />Respiratory isolation previously recon.mended. Specific precautions <br />will be maintained for patients with airborne diseases diagnosed or <br />suspected. -The following precautions will be used: <br />PRECAUTIONS FOR PATIENTS WITH AIRBORNE DISEASES <br />1. Private Room <br />2. "Stop SignAlert" at Door <br />3. Door Closed <br />When a patient is suspected of or known to have a disease transmitted <br />in whole or in part by the airborne route, the physician needs to <br />request a private room and write the diagnosis or "rule out" diagnosis <br />on the order sheet. This will prompt the nurse to place a "stop sign <br />alert" on -the door to the patient's room. The stop sign alert <br />instructs anyone about to enter the room to "check with nurse before <br />entering"..The nurse is responsible for instructing the person who <br />wishes to enter the room whether or not a masF'-is indicated (e.g., for <br />a-W,ient with active tuberculosis) or for determining the immune <br />status o the person wishing to enter the room (e.g. if the patient has <br />chickenpox). <br />The following diseases are transmitted in whole or in part by the <br />airborne route. Patients with these diseases need to be assigned to <br />privte roomis and have a 'STOP SIGN ALERT' posted on the door. The door <br />should remain closed. <br />For diseases marked with an asterisk N all care providers who are not <br />immune to these diseases should not enter the room of these patients. <br />I <br />
