Labeling <br /> All materials which have been denoted as hazardous will be labeled and <br /> packaged according to local, state and Federal regulations. Any deficiency is <br /> reported to the department manager who will be responsible to correct the <br /> deficiency in consult with the Hazardous Materials Coordinator. <br /> • Secondary containers shall be labeled with a Hazard Warning label which <br /> includes Global Harmonization label elements. <br /> • Chemical waste containers are labeled with "CAUTION—HAZARDOUS <br /> CHEMICAL WASTE." <br /> • Medical waste containers are labeled"CAUTION—BIOHAZARDOUS <br /> WASTE." <br /> • Pharmaceutical waste containers are labeled "INCINERATE ONLY'. <br /> • Universal waste containers are labeled"CAUTION—UNIVERSAL <br /> WASTE". <br /> G. Storage <br /> Adequate and secure areas are provided for the safe storage of hazardous <br /> materials and waste.All storage areas will be clearly identified, secured and <br /> appropriately labeled. Outdoor storage areas will be secured. Storage areas will <br /> be separated from patient care,food preparation and serving areas. <br /> H. Disposal <br /> Waste will be disposed of in accordance with applicable local, state and Federal <br /> regulations. Waste Streams for this Affiliate include: <br /> • Municipal Solid Waste- includes garbage and recycling is collected and <br /> disposed of in a manner that meets the requirements of the local health <br /> department and other regulatory agencies. <br /> • Hazardous Chemical Waste—disposed of by a permitted hazardous <br /> waste hauler and transported to a site permitted to receive and dispose of <br /> that chemical. <br /> 1. Medical Waste <br /> • All medical wastes are segregated, stored in appropriate red bags, <br /> containers, and storage areas and disposed of by a licensed medical <br /> waste hauler or rendered non-hazardous by proper sterilization <br /> techniques. (Reference EC Manual Policy: Affiliate-Specific Medical <br /> Waste Management Plans). <br /> • Where applicable, EVS transports medical waste to the San-i-Pak where <br /> it is autoclaved daily. <br /> • Pharmaceutical Waste—The Sutter Health Pharmaceutical and <br /> Chemotherapeutic Wastes policy guidance will be followed. Can include <br /> radioactive drugs, pharmaceutical wastes that are classified as hazardous <br /> waste under the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act <br /> (RCRA) and(non-RCRA), pharmaceutical wastes classified as medical <br /> waste, non-regulated pharmaceutical wastes, as well as trace and bulk <br /> chemotherapeutic wastes. <br /> o Unused Medications are returned to the pharmacy for processing <br /> according to department policy. Otherwise, it is disposed of as <br /> either: RCRA waste, or non-RCRA hazardous waste, or non- <br /> Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Page 5 of 9 C.00 <br />
