PU[Z?'0;«: The purpose of this guideline is to <br /> improve the sanitation procedure for the cleansing <br /> of the reusuable container utilized for the <br /> temporary storage of Hazardous or Infectious <br /> T.VElste associated with medical services. <br /> As Noted in previously approved guidelines, iiazarda <br /> ous or` Infectious disposable wastes shall aways be <br /> storedl in suc:IA a manner and -in such a. container as <br /> to preclude accidental transmission of disease or <br /> causing :injury to personnel in the proximity. <br /> T. PROCa UUR7e 'Then there no longer is a need for the <br /> container certain preliminary procedures must be <br /> follo�-led. <br /> 1 . In this case, the reusuable container (a linen <br /> barrel) shall be preliminarily washed with <br /> germicidal cleaner. <br /> a. Use a dilution of E-SAN 335 (20 of <br /> germicidal cleaner per gallon of water) . <br /> The container shall be ;washed with sufficient <br /> solution so that its parts remain wet for a <br /> ;period of at least 10 minutes to insure satis- <br /> factory completion of the process. <br /> 3. -"!),:nployees shall utilize protective rubber <br /> gloves, clean sponges and cloths for this <br /> cleaning :process. <br /> 4. Upon completiorn of this process, the reusable <br /> container is to be removed to the nearest <br /> Janitorial Room containing a sink connected to <br /> a sanitary sewer. Fluids remaining within the <br /> container shall be poured into the sanitary <br /> sevrer. <br /> 5. To ensure total cleanliness of the reusable <br /> container (for future use) , once the container <br /> has been completely cleansed and is in the <br /> Janitorial Room, procedures #1 thru #4 shall <br /> be repeated. <br />
