- 9 - <br /> C.. Separate Storage - Infectious Wastes <br /> 1 . Infectious wastes, as defined in Sec. 314, <br /> shall be stored separately from garbage <br /> and other solid wastes. <br /> DISPOSAIL OF ITJF:H;CTIOUS VIASTES <br /> Sec. 314: <br /> A. Infectious wastes shall 'be disposed of in an <br /> incinerator providing complete combustion. <br /> B. Joint use of an approved incinerator at another <br /> medical or health facility may be permitted if <br /> written approval is granted by _the Department <br /> and the local health officer.. <br /> C. Sanitary landfill or other method of disposal <br /> of infectious wastes may be permitted if <br /> written approval is granted by the local health <br /> officer having jurisdiction, provided: <br /> 1 . The licensee applies in writing to the <br /> local health officer, states the reason for <br /> the request and describes in detail the <br /> proposed plan for method of disposal. <br /> 2. The local health officer certifies to the <br /> Department in writing with notification to <br /> the applicant that the alternate method is <br /> approved and does not jeopardize public <br /> health and safety` <br /> 3. A new request is submitted to the local <br /> health. officer whenever there is a substan- <br /> tial increase in bed capacity. <br /> 4. If approval is withdrawn by the local health <br /> officer: <br /> a. The licensee :hall notify the Department <br /> citing the reasons for the withdrawal <br /> in writing. <br /> b. ",'he licensee ,shall comply with subsection <br /> (a) or (b) of this section. <br /> �. Infectious '^Tastes shall be defined as: <br /> 1 Significant laboratory wastes including <br /> pathological specimens (which shall include <br /> all tissues, specimens of blood elements, <br /> excreta and secretions obtained from patients) <br /> and disposable fomites (which shall include <br /> any substance which may harbor or transmit <br /> pathogenic organisms) attendant thereto. <br />
